change you can sorta pretend is going to happen after it doesn't.

yes we can.  or not.

hope.  and more.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Just  a quick idea:

The most important aspect of the presidential race is bringing all the pundits on board so that they don't feel left out, don't get their feelings hurt, and don't need to clutch their pearls on the way to the swooning couch. If we can keep them happy, then perhaps they won't spend the next four years manufacturing their own narrative and we, the nation, can move forward.

How can we do this?  By engineering a race they can love, and understand.  And this is where the simplicity of my idea really will pay off.

Let us demand that Obama pick McCain as his running mate, and McCain can pick Obama.  Its a win, win, win.  No more pouty, confused pundits; really no need for journalism at all.  Just sit back and flick on teh teevee.  What could be better?

more lapel pins

by S2
Sat May 10th, 2008 at 12:27:45 PM EST

My Fellow Americans,

Now is the time.  Patriotism has become a bad word.  The true meaning has become muddled.  Can we "Support the Troops" by putting a sticker on our personal trucks?  Can we love our country by shopping a bit more and amassing a little more debt?  Can we make ourselves safer by ignoring our neighbors, building higher fences, forsaking those who are different than ourselves?  Is blind trust in a strong but ignorant leader guided by faith enough?

Not anymore.

There is a new movement on the horizon.  And I'm not talking about helping a dedicated, visionary leader register more voters, help get health care for more americans and stop an illegal war while ending tourture.

I'm not even talking about a gas-tax holiday or setting an arbitrary limit of 100 years on our Iraq adventure or using up our inventory of bombs on Iraq.

I'm talking about wearing a minimum of 2 flag lapel pins for every american man woman and child.  And more. Wear 6 or 8. Put jackets on your dogs, cats and ferrets and have them wear flag pins too!

More pins.  Just do it.

Dear Sir or Madam,

As the presumptive nominee for the Presidency of the United States of America, I ask you to consider the following slogan for your campaign:

Preserve.  Protect.  Defend.

I recommend that it be adorned with a simple and easily recognizable logo using red, white, and blue.  Please be aware of the importance of font choice and be certain you are consistent in font usage.

Collateral materials could then be organized around the following themes:

Repair the law.
No torture.
Less war.
Better health.

Again, as a professional in the area of branding design, I cannot overstate the importance of font choice and consistency in its usage.

The good folks in Yorba Linda wrote me, and I just had to share!

Watch out Booman Trib Community, there's a new kid on the blog! (heh.)

If you're a news junkie, this blog's for you!

Whether you're new to blogs or already caught the blogging bug, nixonblog.com should be part of your daily online routine. Updated constantly, it's like a daily newspaper, only better. It's not all about RN, but it is all about current events and people you'll want to keep up with.

Visit every morning and you'll read insightful and provocative views by an incredible roster of commentators weighing in on the day's controversies, events, people and news. You can even post your own comments if you'd like.

Check it out every day.

Nixonblog.com, it's a healthy part of a complete breakfast.

If you've never visited The Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace, I recommend it.  Its about as surreal as it gets.  Be certain to worship at the Pat Nixon shrine, and the giftshop alone is worth the trip to Orange County. I got a birdhouse that looks like the cottage RN was born in.

Media Narrative Shift

by S2
Thu Mar 6th, 2008 at 11:57:48 AM EST

Media Narrative Shifts as Lazy Reporters Get More Free Booze

As Senator John McCain (R-AZ) has sewn up the republican nomination, he has begun plying reporters with excessive amounts of free alcohol in an effort to steer them toward delivering damaging narratives about the democratic candidates.

The latest effort has been to convince starry-eyed journalists that  Senator Joseph Lieberman (I-CT) is at the top of his list for Vice President.  "Its not that he's young, or vigorous, or  politically astute, or particularly endowed with a moral strength, or even that he loves the never-ending war" said the candidate, "its that he's a Jew, and nothing moves the story along better than the traditional tripartide tension of Woman, Black, and Jew." After a pause McCain added, "Excuse me, my friends, I of course meant to say 'African-American.' "

Update [2008-3-6 11:57:48 by S2]:  Ed. note:  This story exemplifies the lazy, pointlessness of media coverage of important events in American life, which are tinged with destructive elements such as bigotry.  It is in no way meant to portray Senator McCain as a racist:  in fact, please remember he was a victim of racism in 2000 at the hands of now President Bush.  The story is meant to look forward and postulates that the narrative of the coming election will, by necessity, have elements of bigotry involved, and Americans should prepare their expectations accordingly.

interesting, human.

I gave the President my book. He raised an eyebrow. "Who wrote this for ya, Geldof?" he said without looking up from the cover. Very dry. "Who will you get to read it for you, Mr. President?" I replied. No response.

Its all too easy to think of Bush as a war criminal presiding over a huge criminal enterprise, because, well, its true.  But its weird to touch on the fact that human monsters, intentional or accidental, are real human beings, too.

I like to think it is personally empowering to realize this idea.  Toward that end, I suggest you read this interview:

Advanced Text of President's Address

by S2
Wed Jan 10th, 2007 at 12:07:46 PM EST

Good evening.

This is the 37th time I have spoken to you from this office, where so many decisions have been made that shaped the history of this Nation. Each time I have done so to discuss with you some matter that I believe affected the national interest.

In all the decisions I have made in my public life, I have always tried to do what was best for the Nation. Throughout the long and difficult period of my destructive time on earth, I have felt it was my duty to persevere, to make every possible effort to complete the term of office to which you elected me.

In the past few days, however, it has become evident to me that I no longer have a strong enough political base in the Congress to justify continuing that effort. As long as there was such a base, I felt strongly that it was necessary to see the constitutional process through to its conclusion, that to do otherwise would be unfaithful to the spirit of that deliberately difficult process and a dangerously destabilizing precedent for the future.

But with the disappearance of that base, I now believe that the constitutional purpose has been served, and there is no longer a need for the process to be prolonged.

I would have preferred to carry through to the finish whatever the personal agony it would have involved, and my family unanimously urged me to do so. But the interest of the Nation must always come before any personal considerations.

From the discussions I have had with Congressional and other leaders, I have concluded that because of the my dangerous ego, I might not have the support of the Congress that I would consider necessary to back the very difficult decisions and carry out the duties of this office in the way the interests of the Nation would require.

I have never been a quitter. To leave office before my term is completed is abhorrent to every instinct in my body. But as President, I must put the interest of America first. America needs a full-time President and a full-time Congress, particularly at this time with problems we face at home and abroad.

To continue to fight through the months ahead for my personal vindication would almost totally absorb the time and attention of both the President and the Congress in a period when our entire focus should be on the great issues of peace abroad and prosperity without inflation at home.

Therefore, I shall resign the Presidency effective at noon tomorrow.

Vice President Cheney, should his evil and shriveled heart hold out, will be sworn in as President at that hour in this office.

I regret deeply any injuries that may have been done in the course of the events that led to this decision. I would say only that if some of my Judgments were wrong, and some were wrong, they were made in what I believed at the time to be the best interest of the Nation.

To have served in this office is to have felt a very personal sense of kinship with each and every American. In leaving it, I do so with this prayer: May God's grace be with you in all the days ahead.  Heh.

believe in

by S2
Fri Dec 1st, 2006 at 11:37:37 PM EST

They believe in nothing; there is no core; they are blank.  Perhaps, one might argue, they believe in one thing: their own supremacy.  But that in itself is the nothingness that contains the emptiness.

Using this concept - that they believe in nothing, they exist alone in a barren and meaningless isolation - as a lens through which to view their actions, or inactions, is the only plausible way to make sense of them.  Any other analysis fails to accommodate understanding. There is no other motivation: not rule of law nor the greater good, not greed, nor logic, nor conservatism, radicalism, benevolence, cruelty, compassion, nor loathing.  None of it works.

The only coherent thread running through their actions is a detached maniacal selfishness obscuring a hibernating fear: exposure as the smallest of persons while acting as if the they are the greatest of men.
