B'Tselem Release Video of Ni'ilin Shooting

Rights group B'Tselem said the incident occurred on 7 July in the West Bank. B'Tselem said the video clip showed a soldier firing a rubber-coated steel bullet, from close range, at a handcuffed and blindfolded Palestinian detainee. It said the shooting took place in the presence of a lieutenant colonel, who was holding the Palestinian man's arm when the shot was fired.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) called the incident "grave" and in "direct contradiction" of the army's values.

YouTube video Ni'lin shooting still available

Thanks Oui.

Believe it or not, NBC apparently took footage off the video before it was deleted and presented it near the end of their Nightly News program last night. I was really surprised because, as you know, there has been considerable censorship and propaganda in the mainstream news media over here.

the father of the 14 yr old who shot the Ni'lin footage was arrested yesterday.

How awful. B'Tselem, which provided the cameras, may be onto something here. Even the arrest presents an opportunity to present the truth about what is going on over there.

different footage of the same event, or the same video uploaded again?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ly2I5AzfnrY

If so, try saving locally:

http://www.voobys.com/watch?v=ly2I5AzfnrY

(the trick is pasting the end of a youtube URL after voobys.com, and just the simplest type of youtube URL, not with all the extra =related&this.that stuff)

Try this search to possibly located extra/other copies or different footage (scroll down):

The first video is the one in question, yet when I click on the original, it comes up with the same "I'm sorry" message. I'll try to tinker. Thanks.

Thanks Martini. It works. I wonder if YouTube will pull it down as it did the first one.

I think we're lucky that YouTube has so few barriers to posting movies -- but anyone posting something politically "hot" needs to be prepared to also post independently of youtube -- centralized collection of viewers & way to share movies also means centralized way to stomp out a message, unless people plan for decentralized distribution of the media.

Also definitely important to note and share news when the centralized authorities manage to squash something like this.

While it's a "funny" video, there's a real message in the lost footage of Stephen Colbert's video that was on YouTube and is gone, and is not available on ComedyCentral, even though most of the rest of his clips are at least on ComedyCentral.  The one in question was Stephen interviewing gov't officials on how to go about creating a faith based initiative.  He started his own religious organization naming it the Faith Based Faith of Stephen with a "ph".  Lots of footage of officials squirming as they woke up to how they were being cornered into admitting how easy it is for religious organizations to get government funding.  Here's a bit of background, but the link goes to the dead YouTube page: http://thoughtsfortheopenminded.blogspot.com/2006/07/faith-based-faith-of-stephen-with-ph.html

Good luck!

Video Camera Project by B'Tsalem - Shooting Back

On the evening of Friday, 20 June 2008, three settlers assaulted Palestinian shepherds near the Susiya settlement in the Southern Hebron Hills. Nasser a-Nawaj'ah, a B'Tselem fieldworker, filmed the assault and the failure of soldiers on the scene to protect the shepherds. Although filming the incident was lawful, one of the soldiers hit a-Nawaj'ah and stole the video cassette.
